Ground installation

Ground-mounted installations offer simplicity, flexibility and optimal performance thanks to perfectly controlled orientation/tilt. Ideal for open land, gardens or car parks, this solution is suitable for private individuals with space available and professionals (farmers, industrialists).

This sub-category explores all ground installation solutions: fixed ground structures, dual-purpose solar carports (vehicle shelter + electricity production), and tracking systems to maximise annual production.

Solar carports: the star 2-in-1 solution. Our flagship article (8,220 views!) details the installation of a 15-panel aluminium carport (6 kWp): vehicle protection against the elements, 6,000-7,500 kWh/year production, robust structure certified for snow/wind loads, and the possibility of integrating an EV charging station. Accelerated return on investment thanks to the dual function.

Types of ground structures. Fixed structures on driven piles or concrete blocks are the most economical and reliable. Optimal tilt 30-35° south-facing. Ballasted structures (concrete slabs) are suitable for non-excavable soils. Solar pergolas combine terrace shading and electricity production. Tracking systems (1 or 2-axis trackers) increase production by 20-40%, but are expensive.

You also need to master foundation calculations according to climate zones (snow load, wind pressure), grounding techniques, spacing between rows to avoid mutual shading, and prior authorisations (prior declaration of works according to power and height).
