How can you achieve 70-80% self-consumption? The key lies in synchronising production and consumption. Programme your washing machine, dishwasher, water heater and electric vehicle to run in the middle of the day when production is at its peak. What to do with surplus production? You have three options: feed it back into the grid (free or paid depending on your country/contract), store it in batteries for night-time consumption, or use it to power thermal equipment (water heaters, heat pumps) to directly convert the surplus into heat.
