Roof installation

Roof installation accounts for 90% of residential photovoltaic projects. Mastering secure fastening techniques and ensuring watertightness are essential to prevent water infiltration and costly damage over 25-30 years of operation.

This sub-category details all roof installation methods: choice of fasteners according to roof type (interlocking tiles, slates, steel roofing, flat roofs), mounting of rails and hooks, and professional waterproofing techniques.

Building integration vs. overlay: what is the difference? Building integration replaces traditional roofing with photovoltaic panels: optimal aesthetics, but technical complexity and high cost. Overlay fixes the panels on top of the existing roofing: the most common solution, simplicity of installation, optimal ventilation (panel cooling), and reversibility.

Choice of fixings according to roofing. Each type of roof requires suitable hooks: mechanical tile hooks (height-adjustable), natural slate hooks (non-perforating), crimp nuts for steel roofing, angle brackets for fibre cement roofing. The use of unsuitable hooks compromises waterproofing and strength.

Also discover wind load calculations (important in exposed areas), portrait vs. landscape installation techniques, compliance with DTU 43.1 and 43.3 (waterproofing and roofing), and site safety precautions (lifelines, harnesses, temporary guardrails).
