XVB 4G6 mm - 1m electric cable

Fire-resistant cable suitable for indoor or outdoor fixed installations, whether for residential or industrial use.

Cable XVB 4G6 mm² - Rigid three-phase cable without neutral conductor for fixed electrical installations

The XVB 4G6 mm² cable is a PVC-insulated rigid multi-conductor electrical cable specially designed for fixed three-phase low-voltage electrical installations that do not require a neutral conductor. Its robust construction with 4 solid copper conductors (3 phases + earth) makes it the cable of choice for balanced three-phase photovoltaic installations, industrial electrical distribution and pure three-phase load connections.

Compliant with the Belgian RGIE (Règlement Général sur les Installations Électriques) and European standards HD 604 and EN 50575, this cable guarantees safety, reliability and economy for your balanced three-phase electrical projects.

Main applications

The XVB 4G6 mm² cable (4 conductors without neutral) is specifically designed for balanced three-phase installations:

  • Three-phase photovoltaic installations without neutral: Fixed connection of 6 to 10 kW inverters operating in pure three-phase (balanced injection on the 3 phases without single-phase consumption).
  • Three-phase motors and machines: Power supply for three-phase electric motors, pumps, compressors and industrial fans that do not require a neutral conductor.
  • Balanced three-phase distribution: Connection between switchboards for exclusively three-phase loads
  • Industrial installations: Wiring of three-phase circuits for professional equipment operating in balanced three-phase mode
  • Indoor installation: Surface-mounted on a wall, flush-mounted in a recess, in cable trays or technical sheaths
  • Protected outdoor installation: Installation in protective sheaths (ICTA, IRL) for outdoor feed-throughs
  • Buried installation: Installation in sheaths, conduits or ducts buried in accordance with the RGIE (minimum depth 60 cm)

⚠️ Important: XVB 4G6 cable does NOT include a neutral conductor. It is only suitable for balanced three-phase installations. For installations requiring a neutral (single-phase + three-phase loads), use the XVB 5G6 cable (5 conductors with neutral).

How to choose?

  • Choose the XVB 4G6 if your inverter or equipment operates in balanced three-phase without the need for a neutral (pure photovoltaic injection, three-phase motors).
  • Choose XVB 5G6 if you have single-phase loads in addition to three-phase loads, or if your inverter requires a neutral conductor.

Advantages of XVB 4G6 cable for photovoltaic installations

Material and financial savings: By eliminating the neutral conductor not required for balanced three-phase installations, the XVB 4G6 cable offers a significant cost reduction compared with the XVB 5G6. This saving also has an impact on protection (four-pole circuit breakers instead of five-pole).

Optimised installation: With one less conductor, the XVB 4G6 cable is more compact, lighter and easier to handle during installation. Its smaller diameter makes it easier to pass through ducts and reduces the space required in cable trays.

Simplified electrical configuration: For three-phase photovoltaic inverters operating in pure injection mode (without local single-phase consumption), the absence of a neutral conductor simplifies wiring and avoids problems of imbalance between phases and neutral.

Rigid construction for fixed installations: Rigid class 1 solid copper conductors guarantee excellent mechanical strength for permanent fixed installations. The cable retains its shape after laying, making it easy to hold in cable trays.

💡 Expert tip: Always check the specifications of your inverter before choosing between XVB 4G6 and XVB 5G6. Some inverters necessarily require a neutral conductor for correct operation, even in three-phase. Consult the technical documentation for your UPS or contact our technical support.

Dimensioning and choice of cross-section

The choice of XVB cable cross-section depends on the power of the installation, the length of the cable and the installation method. For a 4G6 mm² XVB cable:

  • Maximum recommended power: 6 to 10 kW three-phase (depending on length)
  • Length up to 15 m: Three-phase inverters up to 10 kW
  • Length 15-25 m: Three-phase inverters up to 8 kW
  • Over 25 m: Choose a larger cross-section (10 mm² minimum)

Table of admissible currents according to installation method :

Mode de pose Description Courant admissible
Type B Pose encastrée en paroi isolante 36A
Type C Pose en apparent sur paroi, sur chemin de câbles 41A
Type E Pose enterrée dans conduit ou fourreau 46A

Installation and use

The XVB 4G6 mm² cable must be carefully laid in accordance with good practice and the requirements of the RGIE :

Preparation and planning :

  1. Compatibility check: BEFORE any purchase, confirm that your inverter or equipment operates in three-phase mode WITHOUT a neutral conductor.
  2. Calculating lengths: Measure the path precisely, allowing a 10-15% margin for connections.
  3. Choice of installation method: Decide whether the installation will be surface-mounted, flush-mounted or underground
  4. Selecting protection: Provide a four-pole circuit breaker (4 poles: 3 phases + earth) suitable for the rated current

Installation techniques :

  • Exposed installation: Fix the cable every 30-40 cm with suitable clamps. Avoid excessively tight bends (minimum radius 80 mm).
  • Flush-mounted installation: Make sufficiently deep recesses and pull the cable without excessive stress.
  • Duct installation: Use minimum Ø20-25mm ICTA ducts. Pull the cable with a wire puller, taking care not to force it.
  • Buried installation: Place the cable in a sheath at least 60 cm underground. Mark the passage with a red warning grid 20 cm below the surface.

Connections and splicing :

  1. Stripping: Use a cable stripper to remove the outer sheath, then strip 10-12 mm off each conductor.
  2. Phase identification: Follow the colour code (Black=L1, Brown=L2, Grey=L3, Green-Yellow=Earth). There is NO blue conductor (no neutral).
  3. Tightening: Use terminals suitable for the 6 mm² cross-section. Tighten firmly but not excessively.
  4. Checking: Check the continuity of each phase and earth, and that there are no short circuits before switching on the power.

Compatibility with three-phase photovoltaic inverters

The XVB 4G6 mm² cable is suitable for the fixed connection of three-phase inverters operating WITHOUT a neutral conductor. Here are some examples of compatible inverters:

⚠️ Essential check: Before using a 4G cable (without neutral conductor), ALWAYS consult the technical documentation for your UPS to confirm that it does indeed operate without a neutral conductor. If in doubt, use the XVB 5G6 cable (with neutral).

Inverters generally compatible with 4G cable:

  • Certain Deye SUN series models (depending on configuration)
  • Certain pure three-phase industrial inverters
  • Three-phase motors and industrial equipment
  • Three-phase heat pumps without single-phase electronics

Inverters requiring a neutral (5G cable required) :

  • Huawei SUN2000 series (require neutral)
  • Fronius Symo series (require neutral)
  • Goodwe ET/EM series (require neutral)
  • Most residential hybrid inverters

🔍Our recommendation: If in doubt about the need for the neutral conductor, contact our technical support BEFORE you order. We will help you determine whether the XVB 4G6 or 5G6 cable is suitable for your installation.
