XVB 3G1.5 mm - 1m electric cable

XVB 3G1.5 mm² Cable - Single-phase Rigid Cable for Lightweight Electrical Installations

XVB 3G1.5 mm² is a PVC-insulated, multi-conductor rigid electrical cable specially designed for low-voltage, single-phase, light fixed electrical installations. Its economical construction with 3 solid copper conductors (phase + neutral + earth) with a cross-section of 1.5 mm² makes it the cable of choice for lighting circuits, 10/16A sockets and small residential electrical equipment.

Compliant with the Belgian RGIE (Règlement Général sur les Installations Électriques) and European standards HD 604 and EN 50575, this cable guarantees safety, reliability and economy for your light electrical circuits.

Main applications

The XVB 3G1.5 mm² cable is perfectly suited to single-phase light electrical circuits:

  • Residential lighting circuits: power supply for luminaires, recessed spotlights, wall lights, ceiling lights, LED lighting, etc.
  • 10/16A sockets: Non-specialised socket circuits for light appliances (lamps, TV, computers, chargers)
  • Auxiliary photovoltaic installations: Monitoring cabling, communication systems, supervision equipment (datalogger, smart meters)
  • Control circuits: power supply for switches, push-buttons, presence detectors, etc.
  • Light automation: electric gates, roller shutters, low-power home automation systems
  • Indoor installation: surface-mounted on a wall, flush-mounted in a recess, in cable trays or technical ducts
  • Protected outdoor installation: Installation in protective sheaths (ICTA, IRL) for outdoor feed-throughs
  • Buried installation: Installation in sheaths, conduits or ducts buried in accordance with the RGIE (minimum depth 60 cm)

⚠️ Important: XVB 3G1.5 mm² cable is designed for light electrical circuits (lighting, 10/16A sockets). For specialised circuits with high power consumption (washing machines, dishwashers, ovens, hobs), use a minimum cross-section of 2.5 mm².

Advantages of XVB 3G1.5 cable for residential installations

Cost-effective solution for light circuits: The XVB 3G1.5 mm² cable offers the best value for money for low-consumption electrical circuits. Its 1.5 mm² cross-section is perfectly sized for lighting and 10/16 A sockets, offering substantial savings compared with oversized cross-sections.

Easy to install: With its compact 7-8 mm diameter and light weight (0.04 kg/m), this cable is particularly easy to handle during installation. It slips easily into small-diameter sheaths (ICTA Ø16mm), narrow cut-outs and false ceilings, reducing installation time and cost.

Versatile use: Although mainly intended for light circuits, XVB 3G1.5 mm² cable can carry up to 19.5A when laid underground, offering a comfortable safety margin for most common residential applications.

Reliable rigid construction: Rigid Class 1 solid copper conductors guarantee excellent mechanical strength for permanent fixed installations. The cable retains its shape after installation, preventing sagging in cable trays or horizontal ducts.

💡 Expert advice: XVB 3G1.5 mm² cable is protected by a 10A (recommended for lighting) or 16A maximum (for sockets) circuit breaker. Never use a circuit breaker of 20A or more with this cross-section, as the cable would not be properly protected against overloads.

Dimensioning and choice of cross-section according to the RGIE

The RGIE (Belgian General Regulations on Electrical Installations) imposes strict rules on cable sizing according to use:

RGIE sizing table for residential circuits :

Type de circuit Section minimum RGIE Protection maximale XVB 3G1,5 compatible ?
Éclairage 1,5 mm² 10A (16A max) Oui (idéal)
Prises 10/16A non spécialisées 1,5 mm² 16A (20A max) Oui
Prises cuisine (circuits spécialisés) 2,5 mm² 20A Non - Utiliser 2,5 mm²
Lave-linge / Lave-vaisselle 2,5 mm² 20A Non - Utiliser 2,5 mm²
Four électrique 2,5 mm² (four simple) 20A Non - Utiliser 2,5 mm²
Plaques de cuisson 6 mm² minimum 32A Non - Utiliser 6 mm²
Chauffe-eau électrique 2,5 mm² 20A Non - Utiliser 2,5 mm²
Sèche-linge 2,5 mm² 20A Non - Utiliser 2,5 mm²
Circuits auxiliaires PV (monitoring) 1,5 mm² 10A Oui (parfait)

Maximum recommended lengths to limit voltage drop:

  • Lighting circuits (10A): Up to 40 metres
  • 16A socket circuits: Up to 25 metres
  • Beyond that: use a 2.5 mm² cross-section to limit the voltage drop.

Installation and use

The XVB 3G1.5 mm² cable must be carefully laid in accordance with good practice and the requirements of the RGIE :

Preparation and planning :

  1. Identification of the circuit: Determine precisely the use of the circuit (lighting, sockets) to choose the appropriate protection.
  2. Calculating lengths: Measure the route, allowing a 10-15% margin for connections in junction boxes.
  3. Choice of installation method: Select the method of installation (surface-mounted, flush-mounted, duct-mounted) according to the constraints.
  4. Selecting the protection: Use a suitable circuit breaker (10A for lighting, 16A for sockets).

Installation techniques:

  • Exposed installation: Fix the cable every 25-30 cm with suitable plastic clamps. Avoid tight bends (minimum radius 45 mm).
  • Flush-mounted installation: Make recesses 20-25 mm deep, pull the cable through without strain, fill in with plaster or mortar.
  • Duct installation: Use minimum Ø16mm ICTA ducts (Ø20mm recommended for easier pulling). Pull the cable with a wire puller.
  • Buried installation: Place the cable in a sheath at least 60 cm underground. Mark the passage with red warning netting 20 cm below the surface.

Connections and splicing :

  1. Stripping: Use a wire stripper to remove the outer sheath, then strip 8-10 mm off each conductor.
  2. Identification: Follow the colour code (Brown/Black=phase, Blue=neutral, Green-Yellow=ground)
  3. Tightening: Use Wago connectors or terminals suitable for the 1.5 mm² cross-section. Tighten correctly without crushing the copper.
  4. Junction boxes: Install junction boxes at junction points, never make connections in ducts or flush-mounted.
  5. Checking: Check the continuity of each conductor and that there are no short circuits before switching on the power.
