How the 12V system works

When your batteries reach their regulation voltage, the regulator does not shut down the wind turbine. Thanks to Pulse Width Modulation (PWM), it gradually diverts the energy to the supplied load resistor.

Advantage: The wind turbine remains electrically braked, avoiding whistling and mechanical wear due to idling.

Responsiveness: As soon as a 12 V device is switched on on board, the regulator instantly redirects the power from the wind turbine to your consumables.

1. What is the purpose of the dump load included in the kit? +
The dump load is a crucial safety feature. When your 12V batteries are full, the SCR regulator uses PWM technology to divert excess energy to this resistor. This keeps the wind turbine electrically braked, preventing it from spinning idle, which would cause whistling and premature mechanical wear.
2. Is this regulator compatible with lithium (LiFePO4) batteries? +
Yes, but this requires a specific configuration. For lithium batteries, automatic temperature compensation must be disabled to avoid damaging the cells. By default, the regulator is perfectly suited for lead, AGM and gel batteries with a maximum charging voltage of 14.4 V.
3. What is the golden rule when installing the regulator? +
The connection order is vital to protect the electronics: you must connect the regulator to the 12V battery before connecting the wind turbine. In addition, be sure to install the load resistor in a well-ventilated area, as it generates significant heat when dissipating energy.
4. Is the system responsive if I switch on a device on board? +
Absolutely. The SCR regulator manages energy in real time. As soon as consumption is detected on your 12V network (lighting, electronics, pump), the power generated by the wind turbine is instantly redirected from the load resistor to your consumers to optimise your autonomy.
