Ultracell UL 12-12 AGM batteries - 12Ah 12V AGM
The Ultracell UL 12-12 AGM battery is a 12 V, 12 Ah battery designed for small-scale energy storage, particularly for solar power systems and emergency power supplies. Its AGM (Absorbed Glass Mat) technology is described as leak-proof and suitable for solar applications, with a stated self-discharge rate of 1 to 3% per month. It measures 151 × 98 × 95 mm and has an approximate internal resistance of 14 mΩ.
- Specifications: 12 V, 12 Ah, 151 × 98 × 95 mm, internal resistance approx. 14 mΩ, nominal life +- 5 years at 20 °C.
- Cells: AGM (Absorbed Glass Mat) technology with electrolyte immobilised in a fibre, and sealed battery.
- BMS + communication: Not applicable, as this is an AGM battery (no BMS or communication specified).
- Compatibility + scalability: Suitable for solar applications and standby use. Declared cycling: 500 cycles at 50% discharge and 1,200 cycles at 30% discharge.

AGM Ultracell 12V 12Ah Battery: Autonomy and Durability for Solar Systems
This new type of sealed battery uses "absorbed glass mat batteries" technology. This technology uses a thin sheet of boron-silicate fiber between the battery's lead plates. This thin sheet is soaked in electrolyte (70% water and 30% acid).
Advantages
AGM batteries have many advantages over conventional lead-acid and gel batteries:
- Maintenance-free, leak-proof.
- No off-gassing, shock-resistant.
- Low self-discharge rate of 1 to 3% per month (unlike a normal lead-acid battery, which discharges very quickly if not used for some time).
- Longer life means a return on investment over time, not to mention improved performance.
- As the electrolyte is soaked in the fiber, it cannot leak out, even if the battery casing breaks, so transport is much easier and safer. As they have no liquid, AGMs are highly insensitive to the damaging effects of frost.
- For solar applications, AGMs are ideal: no maintenance (which means they can be placed in inaccessible locations), no off-gassing (no danger of explosion or health hazards for users), use of conventional charging rates, which means they can be used with any standard charging system, and minimum maintenance during winter storage.
Life cycle versus depth of discharge

Comparative table of price per useful kWh over battery life at a glance!

There are many different storage technologies: Gel or AGM batteries, lithium batteries, OPzS and OPsV. It's not easy to choose the right technology for your needs. Each technology has its own characteristics (size, power, cost, number of cycles and service life, etc.). With this table, you can quickly compare the price per useful kWh over the lifetime of the batteries.
C10 = 10-hour charge/discharge test.
