The XVB 5G6 mm² cable is a PVC-insulated multicore rigid electrical cable specially designed to meet the requirements of low-voltage fixed electrical installations. Its robust construction with 5 solid copper conductors (3 phases + neutral + earth) makes it the reference cable for three-phase photovoltaic installations and residential and tertiary electrical distribution systems.
Compliant with the Belgian General Regulations on Electrical Installations (RGIE) and European standards HD 604 and EN 50575, this cable guarantees safety, reliability and longevity for your most demanding electrical projects.
The XVB 5G6 mm² cable is versatile and can be adapted to a wide range of installation configurations:
Rigid construction for fixed installations: Unlike flexible cables (H07RN-F), the XVB 5G6 mm² cable has rigid class 1 solid copper conductors. This makes it ideal for permanent fixed installations where the cable will not be moved after installation. Its rigidity makes it easy to pass through sheaths and ensures optimum hold in cable trays.
Versatile installation in accordance with the RGIE: XVB cable is approved for all types of installation in accordance with the Belgian General Regulations on Electrical Installations (RGIE): surface-mounted, flush-mounted, in a surface-mounted sheath or buried in a conduit. This versatility makes it the universal cable for fixed electrical installations in Belgium.
Optimised fire classification: With its Cca-s3,d2,a3 classification in accordance with EN 50575, XVB cable meets reaction to fire requirements for bundled or flat installations. It does not propagate flames (IEC 60332-1-2 compliant) and produces a small amount of opaque smoke in the event of a fire, limiting the risk to people.
Mechanical and chemical resistance: The double PVC insulation (conductors + sheath) offers excellent protection against mechanical shocks, crushing, humidity and common chemical agents. The cable retains its electrical properties even under demanding installation conditions.
💡 Expert tip: For three-phase photovoltaic installations, XVB 5G6 mm² cable is perfectly sized to connect 10 to 15 kW inverters over distances of up to 20-25 metres. For longer distances, use a larger cross-section (10 mm²) to limit the voltage drop to less than 3%.
The choice of XVB cable cross-section depends on three main parameters: the power of the installation, the length of the cable and the installation method. For a 5G6 mm² XVB cable:

The XVB 5G6 mm² cable is perfectly suited to the fixed connection of most three-phase hybrid and grid inverters on the market:
10 kW three-phase inverters :
12 kW three-phase inverters :
15 kW three-phase inverters :
⚠️ Important: For 15 kW inverters, limit the length of the XVB 5G6 cable to a maximum of 15 metres. Beyond that, use a 10 mm² cross-section to comply with the 3% voltage drop limit.
Two types of cable are commonly used for photovoltaic installations: XVB (rigid) and H07RN-F (flexible). Here are the main differences:
Our advice: For a complete photovoltaic installation, combine the two types of cable as required: XVB for long fixed links (roof→inverter, inverter→array), H07RN-F for flexible final connections to the inverter.
